Varshets struggles to restore the pine park

The disaster that has hit our resort town causes destruction besides the homes of its inhabitants and one of the symbols of Varshets - the pine park. The second largest artificial park in Bulgaria after the Borisov garden occupies an area of 800 decares with pine trees and specially transported exotic species. After the hurricane winds on January 31, 2015, the city's emblematic area of recreation was devastated. The sluggish wind uproots huge trees, shuts down the roads to several villages, damages hundreds of roofs of houses, short electric wires, interrupts mobile communications.

Varshets municipality launches a donation campaign for its reconstruction. In 2015 on the first day of the forest week the chairman of the UDD at Ivan Vazov University, Mirela Petrova, paid the donated amount of 300 leva to the municipality's bill for the restoration of the Pine Park and expressed gratitude to Ms Ivanova for the confidence in children. The students also participated in the "Borov Park" campaign with the distribution of the message about donating sms:

We love our park! Please share the post in your profiles so that it can reach more people in all parts of the country and abroad! A donation sms with latin text DMS BOROV PARK can be sent to 17,777 (for Telenor, VIVACOM and Mtel subscribers). The price of 1 sms is BGN 1 and VAT is not charged for subscribers under contract with Telenor, VIVACOM and Mtel. The price of the message for users of prepaid services of the three operators is BGN 1.20 and includes VAT. Payment of donation sms to mobile operators is considered to be a real act of donation rather than their sending.

The first 50 saplings are provided by the district management of the forests in Berkovitsa. Afforestation, with the active participation of students, continues, with cedar, Arizona cypress and other species resistant to wind being planted on the site of the uprooted specimens.
